Richard Brice (“Millie”) Leonard, of Highway 47, Lexington, passed away peacefully on August 26 th , just 11 days shy of his 91 st birthday. He was under the loving care of Hinkle Hospice House after a brief illness.
He was born in Lexington NC on September 6, 1931, to Robert Lee Leonard Sr. and Pauline Smith Leonard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Lee (Bobby) Leonard, Jr, a sister, Peggy Joann Reed, and a grand-daughter, Lydian Beck.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean Sheets Leonard, and his children Sam Beck (Kent), Amy Leonard De Forest (Shawn), Cindy Leonard, and Art Leonard. He is also survived by his grand-children, Lohr Beck (Nick Butler), Barret Beck, Stuart Leonard, Melanie Lopez and Christian Grove (Dan).
Brice graduated from Lexington High School in 1951. He served in the Army and was a Paratrooper with the 82 nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Brice had various jobs throughout his life, including his own furniture company, but he was a salesman at heart. He spent most of his career with United Technologies/BASF selling automotive paint. Thomas Built Buses in High Point was his primary customer.
Brice was also a volunteer for the Rescue Squad and South Lexington Fire Department for many years. He served on the Advisory Council at Central Davidson High School and attended Center Hill Baptist Church for 65 years.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 17 th at 2:00pm at Center Hill Baptist Church and will be livestreamed at https://www.facebook.com/Center-Hill-Baptist-Church-Lexington-NC-144587238925226/videos/
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Davidson County or to Center Hill Baptist Church.
