Rick Mack

Richard "Rick" Anthony Mack, age 69, passed away peacefully on July 29 at 3:54 PM at Baptist Hospital following complications from an unexpected illness, surrounded by the love of his family. In keeping with his generous spirit, Rick was an organ donor, ensuring that his passing would give the gift of life to others.

Born into a large Lebanese family on October 14, 1956, Rick was the cherished eldest child of the late Dorothy “Dottie” Robinson Mack and Charles “Lewis” Mack.

Rick lived a life marked by dedication to his community, his alma maters, and, above all, his family. A proud Gardner-Webb University alumnus, he played center for the Bulldogs, and his love for the university and his teammates never faded. He was an active member of the Bulldog Club and treasured annual Homecoming trips, where he reunited with his close-knit “70s group.” Beyond sports, Rick was deeply committed to serving others, giving his time and leadership as Chair of the Lexington Housing Authority as well as a longtime member of Grace Episcopal Church in Lexington, NC.

An avid outdoorsman, Rick was happiest in nature—whether he was hiking a quiet trail, paddling in his kayak, or simply spending time with his loyal dog, Chloe.

Rick is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years, Nancy Logan Mack; his three children, Lydia Mack Hedrick (husband Cory), Jillian Mack Moore (husband Rashad), and Forrest Andrew Mack (fiancée Sydney); and his cherished grandson, Wells Hedrick. He also leaves behind his brothers, Scot Mack (wife Carolyn), Chris Mack (wife Brenda), and Kevin Mack (wife Michelle), along with a large, loving network of nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, and his precious Godmother Lib Koury.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dottie and Lewis, as well as his beloved younger sisters, Cinnie Mack Powell and Mandy Mack Amon.

The Mack family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Baptist Hospital for their compassionate care and support during Rick’s final weeks in this life and the organization LifeShare Carolinas for their guidance in the organ donation process. Special thanks to his niece, Hannah Mack, and his son’s fiancée, Sydney Craig, both nurses whose loving care brought comfort to Rick and the entire family.
