Richard Arnold Phelps Sr., 73, of Welcome Bethesda Road, Lexington, died Saturday, July 1, 2006, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born April 26, 1933, in Davidson County to Charles Phelps and Sarah Bishop Phelps. He was retired from AT&T as the safety supervisor. Surviving are his wife, Patty Walser Phelps of the home; three sons, Richard Phelps Jr., Mike Phelps and Jeffery Phelps, all of Welcome; a daughter, Patricia Hudson and her husband, Kenneth, of Thomasville; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Tommy Phelps of Winston-Salem. A funeral service will conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 4, at Bethesda United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Doug Hochmuth officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, July 3, at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel, and at other times at the home.
