Robert "Bobby" Black

December 24, 1939 — September 12, 2024

Robert “Bobby” Black, 84, of Lexington passed away Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Thomasville Medical Center. A Celebration of Bobby's Life will be held from 2:00pm - 4:00pm, Sunday, November 3, 2024 at the Linwood Fire Department. Bobby was born at home, in Lexington, on Christmas Eve of 1939 to the late Philbert Black and Edna Money Black. He grew up in Lexington and attended Davis Townsend School in the Holly Grove area. Later on, he met, Marilyn Masser, of Winston Salem, and shortly after on March 31, 1972, they married. Bobby loved his wife and family. He worked for PPG Industries for over 33 years. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed all that the outdoors around his home had to offer. He enjoyed fishing and, what many may think of as hard work; cutting and stacking wood, which sometimes involved both of his daughters’ help. He enjoyed being on the road as well. He was a member of the Harley Davidson Friends in the late 70’s and early 1980’s. Bobby also enjoyed the hobby of flying and building model and remote-control airplanes. Taking to the air by remote control, he flew them for many years and was also a member of the Triad Aero Modelers and RC Planes. He had several motorcycles; Harley Davidsons only, as well as more than one, Jeep CJ, and one beloved International Scout which was a must have for the fishing and family trips both near and far from home. Most of all, beyond his hobbies and his many forms of transportation, Bobby loved his family and many friends, always making time for them and looking forward to each of their visits. He leaves behind his wife, Marilyn; two daughters, Sarah Szolnoki and her husband Steve, and Courtney Hepler and her husband Bradley; six grandchildren, Morgan, Dylan, Brandon, Emma, Josh, and Sydney; and three Great Grandchildren, Oaklynn, Maeve, and Kaesyn, all of lexington. Two brothers; Dalton Black and his wife Gail of Holden Beach N.C., and Steve Black and wife Kayla of Lexington. Davidson Funeral Home is honored to serve Bobby’s family.
