Robert "Bob" Lee Eanes

Mr. Robert Lee (Bob) Eanes, 92, of Knob Drive, died Friday, January 29, 2010 at Rowan Regional Hospital after a period of declining health.   A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church, where he had been a member for more than 75 years, with the Rev. Carl Lindquist officiating.  Burial will follow in the Lexington City Cemetery.    The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM Wednesday prior to the service at the Church.    Bob was born in Davidson County, July 12, 1917 to Thomas Shell Eanes, Sr. and Rebecca Cecil Eanes, and he had many dear friends in Lexington and throughout the country. Bob was a graduate of Lexington High School class of 1936 and later attended a local business school. He was a veteran of the US Army Signal Corp, having served his country during World War II in Normandy, Germany, Rhineland and Central Europe and received four bronze stars for his military service. After returning home from the war he worked for Boaze Motor Company and the City of Lexington, Street Department.  After several years of public work he decided to go out on his own and sold ponies and later owned and operated Eanes Flowers, Plants and Bulbs, and was instrumental for many years for the flowers around the square in Lexington. One of his hobbies was raising homing pigeons. At First United Methodist Church he was a member of the Men’s Quartet, mixed double quartet and for 75 years a member of the Chancel Choir and the choir room is named in his honor.  He had a love for music and was a member of the Lexington Men of Song. He was preceded in death by his parents, eight brothers, Cecil, Thomas S. Jr., Sam, Charles, Ralph, William, John and James Eanes and one sister, Kathryn Eanes Pollock.   Surviving are;   eight nephews and three nieces.   Memorials should be directed to the Chancel Choir of First United Methodist Church, 310 South Main Street, Lexington, NC  27292   Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington is in charge of arrangements.      Online condolences may be made at www.davidsonfuneralhome.net
