Robert Lee Coppley, Sr., 82, of Bremen Drive, died Sunday, May 6, 2012, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, following one year of declining health.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at Jersey Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Collier officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Coppley was born May 23, 1929, in Davidson County, to George Franklin Coppley and Lena Fritts Coppley. He was a retired route driver from Coble Dairy and a member of Jersey Baptist Church, Linwood Lions Club, and Linwood Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Coppley also coached little league baseball. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Pierce Coppley.
Surviving are his loving wife, Doris Everhart Coppley of the home; sons, Robert Coppley Jr. and wife, Joyce, of Lexington, and Pierce Coppley and wife, Pam, of Mocksville; daughters, Vickie Lookabill and husband, Jeff, Charm Dalton and husband, Steve, both of Lexington, and Bobbie Illman of Troy; stepson, Ken Carrick of Spartanburg, S.C.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Vetis Rummage of Lexington and Martha Stokes and husband, Don, of Utah.
