Robert Paige "Sonny" Dye

Robert Paige“Sonny” Dye, 86,  of 781 Waitman Road, Lexington, NC went to his heavenly home on  November 17, 2018 surrounded by his loved ones. He was a devoted Husband, Dad, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Friend.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington NC by Reverend Danny Leonard on November 21, 2018 at 3pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. A graveside service will be held at Sunrise Memorial Gardens in New Haven, WV by Pastor Donnie Dye on November 23, 2018 at 4pm. Family and friends will receive guests after the graveside service at New Haven Methodist Church, New Haven, WV.

Sonny was born February 15, 1932 in Vestaburg. PA to William (Bill) Dye and Pearl Poling Dye. He was first married to Ruth Ann Stillwagon on December 12, 1953 in Richmond, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Ruth Ann. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Ford, Barbara Jean Dyson, Dorothy Lindley, Joan McGarrity and survived by his brother William (Bill) Dye, Midland, PA.

Others that will cherish his memory are his wife, Betty Beck Dye,  his Sons, Bob Dye (Sue)  Sunset Beach, NC , Donnie Dye (Joyce) Broad Run, WV,  Ricky Dye ( Terri) Uniontown, OH, Daughter, Linda Brewer (Scott)  New Haven, WV,  Step daughter, Carol Hanes Ray (Todd) Pinehurst, NC and Step son, Bobby Hanes (April) Liberty, NC. He was blessed with 12 Grandchildren and 7 Great grandchildren. Special friends Gerry and Peggy Grotberg of Mocksville, NC and Jim and Gail Simpson of Advance. NC.

Sonny joined the US Army at 17, serving his four years in Germany. He returned to PA where he married Ruth Ann Stillwagon.  He then  moved to WV where he was by employed by Kaiser  Aluminum, from which he retired after 35 years of service. As a family, they participated in sports, archery and enjoyed vacations.  For many years he played “Santa Clause” to the children of his community.

In 1993, he moved to NC where he met and married  Betty Beck on June 13, 1993.  Sonny was an avid golfer, playing many rounds of golf at Lexington Municipal Golf Course.  Sonny also loved his motorcycle, a Red  Honda Goldwing Trike. He and Betty enjoyed riding together, be it a day trip or one of their many adventures across  the US and Canada, always having fun together and with  friends.  Sonny always said “They were never lost as long as they had gas and a paved road.”

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Hospice of your choice in honor of Sonny Dye.
