Robert Eugene “Gene” Grubbs, 83, of Davidson County, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at the Hinkle Hospice House of Davidson County.

A funeral service will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM, with Pastors Brian Alexander and Sandy Young officiating. Burial service will conclude services in the church cemetery.
Gene was born on January 19, 1943, to the late Robert Virginia Grubbs and Laura Jeanette Graham Grubbs. Upon graduating high school, he proudly served his country in the US Army where he earned the title of Expert Rifleman.
Gene found great joy in the outdoors and on the water. He loved fishing with his children and his grandchildren and cruising High Rock Lake on his pontoon boat with his fur baby Alex resting on his lap. He also loved deer hunting on his property in Boone and camping with family at both the beaches and the mountains. The mountains held a special place in his heart, offering him peace and solace. Gene was also a passionate sports fan, and it was no secret that his favorite basketball team was the Carolina Tar Heels “Go Heels”!
After 33 years of dedicated service, Gene retired from RJ Reynolds, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment. Whether he was fishing, boating, hunting, camping, relaxing in the mountains, or fiercely cheering on them Heels, Gene found happiness in all the things he loved and all the people he loved.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Gary Grubbs.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 40 years, Katherine “Dianne” Walker Grubbs, of the home; children, Carolynne “Lynne” Hobbs (Roddie), Rhonda “Lynn” Roland, Ricky Hull, Chrissie Grubbs, Kelly Grubbs (Paige), Michael Hull, Tonia Grubbs, and Angie Wilkins (Chris); brother, Robert Donald Grubbs; sisters, Patricia Teague, Tonya Harrison (John), and Billie Tarr (Phil); 12 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
