Robert Edwin Lockwood Sr., 82, of Cliffview Drive, died Sunday, February 28,2010, at the Hospice Unit, W.G. “Bill” Hefner V.A. Medical Center, Salisbury,
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, where he was a member, with Father Al Gondek officiating. Burial will be in National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Mr. Lockwood was born November 22, 1927, in New York, NY, to Robert Preston Lockwood and Lillian Samuelson Lockwood. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of VFW Post 3074 and was retired from Stroh’s Brewery. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy McCourt Lockwood; sister, Audrey Chasen; and a son, Dr. James Lockwood.
Surviving are his wife, Lillie Smith Lockwood of the home; sons, Robert Lockwood Jr. and wife, Eve, Christopher Lockwood and wife, Lisa, Timothy Lockwood and wife, Jody, John Lockwood and wife, Sandy, and Steven Lockwood and wife, Tobie, all of Lexington; daughers, Mary Everhart and fiancé, John Ramsey, of Kannapolis, Debra Cornelison and husband, Dwight, of Lexington, and Martha Frye and husband, James F., of Ohio; daughter-in-law, Maggie Lockwood of Virginia Beach, Va.; 12 grandchildren, Stacy Foster, Robin Lockwood, Kathleen Lockwood, Erin Everhart Sholtz and husband, Roger, Logan Lockwood, Hannah Moore, Vincent Cornelison, all of Lexington, Matthew Everhart of Alabama, Melissa Lockwood, Jennifer Lockwood, both of Virginia, Holly Lockwood of Charlotte, and James Frye of Ohio; and three great-grandchildren, Jacob Foster, Zachary Foster, both of Lexington, and Corbain Ramsey of Missouri.
