Robert Lewis Mode

December 15, 1946 — October 24, 2013

Robert Lewis Mode passed away peacefully, Thursday, October 24, 2013, at the Hinkle Hospice House, surrounded by family and friends. Robert fought a courageous battle with lung cancer, remaining positive to the end. He was an inspiration to us all. A celebration of life will be held Monday, October 28, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Lexington with the Rev. Dr. Ray N. Howell 3rd and Pastor Chris Byrne officiating. A private ceremony will be held at a later date. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, October 27, 2013, at Davidson Funeral Home. Robert was born December 15, 1946, in Shelby, to Buren Alston and Delphia Hulsey Mode. He was a graduate of Lexington High School and was a proud veteran after serving in the US Army. He retired from LEXCOM Inc. after 30 years of service. Many know Robert for his love of golf. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing often with his friends. He was a member of the Lexington Golf Association. He is survived by his wife, and best friend, Barbara; a daughter, Sydney Mode of Greensboro; stepchildren, Lori and Greg Granger of Frankton, In., and Andrew and Amanda Johnson of Roanoke, VA. The joy of his life was also spending time with the grandchildren, Maddison and Hayley Granger and Gavin and newborn grandson, Liam; his mother-in-law, Opal Westfall of Mooresville; sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Jim Walker of Mooresville, Beryl and Lewie Phillips and Cheryl and John Wicker of Lexington who remain a special part of his life. Those also left to cherish his memory are brothers Charles Mode and wife Mary Ann, and Bill Mode, all of Lexington; sisters, Ann Wells and husband Bill of Escondido, CA, Jean Anthony, Brenda Koonts and husband Joe, Fredia Phillips and husband Keith, all of Lexington; there are also many nieces and nephews and friends who he loved dearly. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Paschold and staff for the care given to Robert and to the staff of Hospice. Also to our dear friends, Brenda and Eddie Hoover, Darrell and Linda Russ, Raymond and Cheryle Hawkins, Jim and JoAnn Hill, Vicki Briles, and Butch Metcalf and Joe and Charlene Morris. A very special thank you to his cousin, Rick Hulsey, who has been here to help care for Robert along with family members and friends. We could not have made it without you!! Memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
