Robert Pickett

Robert Pickett, 81, of Hamilton Lane, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2006, at the residence of his son after several years of declining health. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, by the Revs. Dr. Billy Joe Leonard and Jerry Moore. Burial will be in Forest Hill Memorial Park with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3074. Mr. Pickett was born March 15, 1925, in Davidson County to Clyde Holland Pickett and Ella Berrier Pickett. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1943 and was a seaman first class in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Second Reformed United Church of Christ and retired as a captain with the Lexington Fire Department after 28 years of service. He was a member of the VFW Post 3074 and the American Legion Post 8. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Jenkins Pickett, after 57 years of marriage; five brothers, Luther Pickett, Tommy Pickett, Harold Pickett, Joseph Pickett and Clyde Pickett; and three sisters, Jennie Lee Gamwell, Adale Anderson and Carrie Wall. Surviving are two sons, Robert Wendell Pickett and his wife, Londa, of Linwood, and Joseph Anthony Pickett and his wife, Patricia, of Advance; two grandchildren, Wende Marie Rummage and her husband, Robby, and David Thomas Pickett; two great-grandchildren, Ethan Rummage and Kailyn Rummage; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington, and other times at the home. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Davidson County, P.O.
