Robert Gray Shoaf

Robert Gray Shoaf Sr., 75, of Lexington, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023, at his home.

A funeral service will be held 2 PM Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Midway  Church with Pastor David Hedrick and Minister Timothy Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel.

Robert was born August 23, 1947, in Davidson County, to Mr. Thomas Osco Shoaf and Mrs. Ida Mae Sowers Shoaf. He was the youngest of nine siblings, and the first to be born in a hospital. Mr. Shoaf graduated from North Davidson High School in 1965, then completed two years of college at Davidson County Community College. Robert retired from R.J. Reynolds after 36 years in the Central Distribution Center at Whitaker Park; and was a tobacco, livestock, and produce farmer up until he suffered from a stroke. The dedication he had to his family farm did not go unnoticed, and Robert was a Century Farm Certificate recipient. Mr. Shoaf was a member of Midway  Church; and also, a four year member of the FFA. During his free time, he enjoyed collecting antiques, classic cars and tractors. He was also an avid Duke and Nascar fan.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Shoaf was preceded in death by three brothers, Pvt. Roy Lee Shoaf, Lonnie Shoaf, and Tommy Shoaf; and four sisters, Elizabeth Carter, Anna Mae Smith, Frances Rothrock, and Hazel Marsh.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 55 and a half years, Sue Murphy Shoaf; one son, Robert Shoaf Jr. (Summer) of Lexington; three daughters, Angie Crook (Lee) of Lexington, Lori Tysinger Robertson (Tim) of Lexington, and Cathy Berrier (Travis) of Winston Salem; one sister, Margie Shoaf Vanhoy of Mooresville; one sister in-law, Cynthia Shoaf of Lexington; nine grandchildren, Christopher Crook, Aaron Crook, Austin Tysinger, Sarah Tysinger, Lilly Shoaf, Elaina Shoaf, Jacob Shoaf, Rayford Berrier, and Kindley Mae Ida Berrier; and one great-granddaughter, Arabella Rose Shoaf. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Midway  Church 9795 Old, US-52, Lexington, NC 27295
