Robert “Spunky” Leonard Shoaf Jr, 81, of Lexington, N.C., passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Born on December 29, 1942, to Robert Leonard Shoaf Sr. and Elizabeth Snyder Shoaf in Lexington, NC. Spunky attended Lexington Senior High School and went on to work for the family business, Lexington Mail Order Co.
Spunky was an enthusiastic, caring, and kind man who valued friends and family and devoted his life to helping others. He served as a beacon of hope for those battling addiction and had an immense passion for and an unwavering dedication to his NA and AA family. He accepted everyone with an open heart, open arms, and a perpetual smile.
He is survived by his loving partner Alexandra “Shirley” Leonard Cox, son Holland Shoaf, daughters, Christine “Sissy” Chapman, and Holly Gilbert. Also surviving are grandchildren Hannah Chapman, John Chapman, Will Gilbert, Sam Gilbert, and sister Sally Kernstine. We also could not forget to acknowledge his beloved cat, Gray C.
Spunky was preceded in death by his parents Elizabeth Shoaf and Robert Shoaf, his brother John Holland Shoaf and sister, Bob “Betsy” Elizabeth Shoaf.
His departure comes as a great loss, and is deeply felt by his family, friends and countless others who loved him deeply. Our family would also like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude for all the love, support and care received at Hospice of Davidson County.
The service will be held at Davidson Funeral Home, 301 North Main Street Lexington, NC 27292 on Friday, September 20th, at 2pm. The family will receive visitation from 12:30pm – 1:30pm in the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to an addiction recovery organization of your choice.
