Robert Earl Swicegood, age 80, of Sunnyside Drive, Lexington passed away Saturday (September 3, 2011) at Hinkle Hospice House.
A memorial committal service will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2011, at Salisbury National Cemetery with Chaplain of the VA Medical Center officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2011, at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at their respective homes.
Robert was born in Davidson County March 30, 1931, to Herbert Swicegood and Pauline Lanning Swicegood. He was a retired employee of Lease Way and of the Baptist Faith. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in the Korean Conflict; and a life member of VFW Post 3074. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carrie Stophel Swicegood; a sister, Evelyn Crouse and a brother Walter Swicegood.
Surviving are his son, Robert L. Swicegood and wife, Darlene, of Indianapolis, IN; his daughter, Beverly Lois Swicegood of Lexington; five grandchildren, Jonathan, David, Rose, Chris and Stephanie and husband, Emery; five great-grandchildren, Michael, Emilee, Steven, Rachel and Helena; two sisters, Joyce Stutts and husband, Jimmy, of Jacksonville, FL and Janet Snyder and husband, Cliff, of Lexington one brother, William “Bill” Swicegood and wife, Earlene, of Lexington; brother-in-law, Lowell Crouse of Massachusetts; several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
