Earl Rodney Clark, age 95, of Lexington passed away Saturday morning at his home.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday July 1, 2026 in the Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel with Rev. Doug Rowe officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm prior to the service.
Rodney was born in Davidson County April 26, 1931 to Earl Wayne "EW” Clark and Lena Young Clark. He was a graduate of Lexington High School, where he was a member of the Whizzer Club and built many bikes along with Curtis Leonard. He and his wile Anna were charter members of Wesley Heights United Methodist Church and he often referred to building the church using his wrecker boom to help install different components. In his later years after moving to the lake, he attended The High Rock Lake Ministry and Macedonia United Methodist Church.
He was the owner/operator of Clark Motor Company which was established in 1931 by his father.
In 1956, he added the towing business and this began a lifetime of working to improve the professionalism and safety of the industry as well as creating lifelong friendships. He was a past president and co-founder of the Towing and Recovery Professionals of North Carolina (TRPNC) and also co-founded the Towing and Recovery Association of America (TRAA) and served as Southeastern Director. After retirement Rodney began a growing collection of all things related to gas pumps. This fascination was spurred by his grandfather John Young having served as the Gulf Oil Distributor for Davidson County. He most enjoyed the thrill of the hunt whether for his 1924 T-Model or the many pumps be restored through the years. He spent countless hours designing the restoration of his pumps and gas cans. As dear as the collections were the many friends he made along the way meant the most to him. Above all, he loved his God, his country, his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 58 years, Anna Hedrick Clark, whom he married in 1949, and by his daughter, Rhonda Clark Holman, who passed away May 25, 2026.
Surviving are his daughter Kathy Clark Berrier and husband Steve; his grandchildren, Matthew Wright Holman, Anna Clark Holman and Derek Berrier and wife Michelle; his loving companion of 19 years, Jeannette Swing and his cat, Boo.
The family would like to thank Alderwood Hospice for all their compassion and mostly his nurse, Robin Horne. Also a special thank you to his caretaker, Wende Everhart who filled his last months with laughter and disagreements
Donations may be made to the American Children’s Home or Alderwood Hospice of Davidson County.
