Roger Barfield Black, 79, of Gateway Lane, died Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Triad Rehabilitation Center following a three month illness. A private service will be at Forest Hill Memorial Park with the VFW Chaplain officiating. The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Tina Hawks. Mr. Black was born June 18, 1934, in Davidson County, to Howard G. Black and Fannie Barfield Black. He was a self employed brick mason and a member of Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ. Mr. Black proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and is a member of VFW Post 3074 and a life member of DAV Chapter NC 39. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by stepson, Jason Hudson; brothers, Harry Black, Charles Black, George Black “Wink”, and Billy Joe Black; and sister, Ethel Berrier. Surviving are his wife, Iva Lee Wilson Black; daughters, Maranda Keller (Perry) of Petersburg, Va., and Tina Hawks (Keith) of Lexington; grandchildren, Shannon Keller (Carie), Brandon Keller (Angelica), both of Virginia and Taylor Thompson (Deana) of Lexington; great-grandchildren, Zach, Blake, Madison, Aubri, and Ava. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262.
