Roger Lee James

Roger Lee James, 83, of Lexington, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.

Roger was born in Davidson County on January 27, 1942, to the late Lee James and Lizzie Hailey James. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Frances Parks James; His 1st wife, Sherryl Gregory James, his parents; sons Billy Duggins, Dale Duggins, Johnny Rayson, and Jamie James; brothers Charles “Bud” James, Archie “Art” James, and Bill James; and sister Pelma Sue James.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army and later had a successful career as a welder and farmer.  He loved to keep himself occupied through work or hobbies such as fishing or gardening. Family had a special place in his heart, and his family thought of him as a very special, precious, simple, and gentle man. Roger was cherished by his family very much.

He is survived by his daughters, Maxie Callahan, Dawn Paris (Moe), Laura Shankle (Larry), Linda White, and Sonya Haynes (Pastor Kevin); his son, Lucky Rayson; brothers, Woodie James (Vickie), Mark James (Carolyn), and Clifford James (Gail); grandchildren, Deitra Eanes (Aaron), Tony Paris, Brooke Rich (Robert), Tyler Callahan, Caleb James, Jacob James, and many more loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The James family will receive friends on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 6-8 pm at Davidson Funeral Home in Winston-Salem. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Davidson Funeral Home - Hickory Tree Chapel, officiated by Pastor Kevin Haynes. Committal service will follow at the Byerly Family Cemetery.

Roger will forever be remembered by his loving family, friends, and all the lives he has touched.
