Ronald Hugh Guffey passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2026, in Lexington, North Carolina, at the age of 79.
Ronald was born on Wednesday, June 26, 1946, in Trenton, New Jersey, to Andrew and Louise Hastings Guffey. Ronald's early years were spent in Forest City, NC, where he moved with his family as an infant. He attended school there and graduated from Forest City High School in 1964. His commitment to service led him to enlist in the military the same year, where he honorably served, including completing two tours during the Vietnam War. His time in the military was a testament to his bravery and to thoughts he held as important in his heart.
Following his military service, Ronald embarked on a long and successful 58-year career as a truck driver, starting at the age of 21. In 1972, Ronald married Sharon Dalton and they began their lives together. The same year, Ronald, Sharon and their son, Jeffery, moved to Lexington, NC, so that Ronald could take a job as a truck driver with A&P Grocery, driving a dairy truck. Throughout his career, Ronald worked for several trucking companies. In 1996, he achieved a significant milestone by purchasing his own truck and becoming self-employed, hauling and transporting goods for many companies. Ronald worked as long as he was able and he finally retired in November 2025, after 58 years in the transport industry.
Ronald's journey through life was marked by dedication, service, and quiet strength. He found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially spending time at home with his wife and son when he was not on the road.
Ronald was preceded in death by both of his parents and a stepsister.
Those left to remember Ronald’s life are his wife, Sharon Guffey; son, Jeffery Guffey; one stepbrother and two stepsisters as well as close friends and other extended family.
