Ronnie Douglas “Ron” Johnson age 59 of Beech Retreat Drive, Lexington, died Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at Duke University Medical Center after declining health of one year. A funeral service will be held Saturday, at 2:00 PM at Spring Hill United Methodist Church, 240 Spring Hill Church Rd., High Point, with Rev. Chris Smith and Rev. Burt Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Floral Garden Memorial Park.
Mr. Johnson was born in Guilford County on December 2, 1948 to Lawrence Roosevelt Johnson and Ila Kay Sink Johnson. He graduated from High Point College. He retired from the Davidson County School System, after 30 years of service at Central Davidson High School, where he served in many capacities including, teacher, coach, Athletic Director and Assistant Principal. He attended Macedonia United Methodist Church and was a member of the High Rock River Rats. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Kiger; brother, Kenneth Johnson; and brother-in-law, Wilbur Swaim.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Kathy Gilliland Johnson of the home; daughter, Kimberly Loflin and husband, Keith, of Denton; one grandchild, Karsten Loflin and expecting his second grandchild this month. Also surviving are brother, Carlis Johnson and wife, Joan of Thomasville; sisters, Elsie Woodring and husband T.J., Jean Myers and husband, Wayne, Juanita Swaim all of High Point; and sister-in-law, Nellie Johnson of Sophia; and brother-in-law, Willard Kiger of Huntington, WV.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel Lexington and at other times at the home on Beech Retreat Drive.
