Roy Austin Barr 62 of Oakdale Street, Lexington, went to his permanent fishing grounds, Tuesday September 8, 2009, at his home after losing a 2 year battle with cancer.
A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, September 11, 2009, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Revs. Gary Foster and Max Shoaf and burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Mr. Barr was born December 30, 1946 in Camp Lee, Va., to Roy Stewart Barr and Clara Faye Fortner Barr. He was a retired self employed Brick Mason and honorably served his country in the US Navy. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Stewart Barr.
Surviving are his life partner, Bonita (Bonnie) Smith of the home; two sisters, Brenda (Kay) Owens and husband, Denny, and Shirley Jean Loflin both of Lexington; stepdaughters, Dawna Franks and husband, Derek, and Misty Burns and husband, Billy, both of Lexington; step-grandchildren, Chaz Franks, Whitney Franks, Bianca Ramsey and Jagger Ramsey; and a host of good close friends.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home, and other times at the home, since Mr. Roy Barr has gone fishing.
