Roy Richard Bevan, 80, of Lexington, died Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after a brief illness.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at the First Reformed United Church of Christ in Lexington. The family will receive guests at a reception in the parish hall following the service.
A private inurnment in the church columbarium will be held at a later date.
Mr. Bevan was born September 9, 1934 in Thomasville to the late Esther (Myers) Bevan and the late Francis Capel Bevan. He graduated from High Point University in 1955 and was a proud and involved alumnus. He joined Dixie Furniture Company in 1959, and retired as vice president of sales for Lexington Furniture Industries in 1999.
Mr. Bevan was committed to the First Reformed United Church of Christ, serving as a Deacon, an Elder and a Trustee through the years.
When he and his wife, Anne, moved uptown, he volunteered on the Uptown Lexington committee and supported the development of a historic district. Over the years, Mr. Bevan became adept at joke telling and, in his lifetime, never met a stranger.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Anne (Beck) Bevan, a sister, Edith (Bevan) Grimes of Conover, a brother, Frank Bevan of Thomasville, a daughter, Elisabeth (Bevan) Strillacci and son-in-law, Jim Strillacci of Little River, SC, six grandchildren and their spouses, Josh Flink; Zach Flink and his wife, Jessie Nicole Strillacci and her husband, Ken Purnell; Emily Strillacci and her husband, Kevin Clement; Eve Strillacci; and Claire Strillacci; and one great-grandson, Tyler.
