Roy Avery Shepherd, a beloved husband, father, dedicated worker, and proud Army veteran, passed away on Friday, June 13th, 2025, at the age of 90 at Liberty Hospice in Yadkinville. Roy was born on Tuesday, February 19th, 1935, and lived a full and active life, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
A visitation for Roy will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Monday, June 16th, at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and share in cherished memories. A funeral service celebrating Roy's life will be conducted at 10 am on Tuesday, June 17th, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, with interment to follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Roy is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Gracie Leonard Shepherd, his daughter, Theresa Crooks (Ronnie); his sons, Roy Darrell Shepherd and Jody Lee Shepherd; and three grandchildren: Cassie, Amber, and Jeannie. He was preceded in death by his parents, David Wesley Shepherd and Maggie Leu Shepherd, his daughter-in-law, Dawn Shepherd.
Roy's life was marked by dedication and service. He proudly served in the United States Army, where his commitment to his country was evident. Following his military service, Roy worked as a skilled diesel mechanic for McClean Trucking, where his hard work and expertise were greatly valued.
Roy leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and service to his community and country.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Roy's memory to First Lutheran Church.
Roy's kindness, wisdom, and warmth will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
