Roy Sowers

Roy Odell Sowers, 86, of Calvin Sowers Road, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, in Grayson Creek of Welcome. A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Mark Rachels. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park with military graveside rites by Davidson County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at 303 Sowers Place. Mr. Sowers was born Feb. 17, 1927, in Davidson County to Henry Clay Sowers and Mary Elizabeth Latham Sowers. He was retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation and was of the Methodist faith. Roy loved being with his family and farming, and being outdoors was his joy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Craver Sowers, in August 2000. Surviving are son Roy Wayne Sowers (Frankie) of Tyro; daughter Glenda Faye Sowers of Welcome; three grandchildren, Glenn Eugene Wilson, Joe Nifong (Katie) and Crystal Nifong Swink (Derrick); two great-grandchildren, Ethan James Swink and Emma Bradleigh; and brother James E. Sowers. Memorials may be directed to the donor's choice. The family would like to thank the staff of Grayson's Creek and Hospice for their love and care given to Mr. Sowers.
