Ruby Clodfelter Bates, 83, of Arnold Road, died Wednesday, July 22, 2015, at Hinkle Hospice House.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015, at Center United Methodist Church in Welcome, where she was a member, with the Rev. Stephen Pillsbury officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2015, and other times at Richard and Robert’s homes.
Mrs. Bates was born July 22, 1932, in Davidson County, to Fred Cole Clodfelter and Minnie Biesecker Clodfelter. She was Superintendent of Nursing at the old Lexington Hospital, later worked as Assistant Director of Nursing at Forsyth Medical Center and retired from Community General Hospital in Thomasville where she had worked as a registered nurse. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lafayette Bates Sr.; and brothers, Freddie Clodfelter and Robert G. Clodfelter.
Surviving are sons, Richard L. Bates Jr. and wife Terri and Robert C. Bates and wife Lisa, all of Lexington; grandchildren, Ashley Smith, Aaron Bates, Catherine Bates, Caroline Bates, and Camille Bates; great-grandchildren, Hadley Smith and Gentry Smith; brother, Bobby Clodfelter of Lexington; and sisters, Mary Beeker and husband Ned, Bettie Miller, all of Lexington, and Louise Peacock and husband Jim of Kernersville.
