Ruby Swicegood Clement, 87, of Queen Road, died Sunday, April 2, 2006, at her home after an illness of six months.
The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Smith Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member, by Pastor Terry Smith and the Rev. Darren Alexander. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Clement was born Oct. 3, 1918, in Davie County to Henry Arthur Swicegood and Lillie Estelle Essick Swicegood. She was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class and The Rosa Lanning Circle at her church. Mrs. Clement was a graduate of Davidson County Community College and Salisbury School of Cosmetology. She assisted Habitat for Humanity and Contact as a volunteer. She retired from Fiber Industries and was preceded in death by her husband, James Walter Clement Sr.; two brothers, Frank Swicegood and James Swicegood; and three sisters, Magdaline Swicegood, Irene Bailey and Gurtrude Shoaf.
Surviving are her two sons, "Jim" Clement Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Lexington and Randall Swicegood Clement of Salisbury; four daughters, Betty Clement Saunders and Patti Allman and her husband, Wayne, all of Linwood, and Becky Leonard and Janet Saunders and her husband, Prentiss, all of Lexington; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, H.A. Swicegood of Georgia; three sisters, Kathryn Lakey of Linwood, Anne Carlton of Winston-Salem and Sue Swicegood of Linwood; and special friends Heinz Derwein and Jim and Daisy Nichols, all of Salisbury, and Frank and Martha Davis of Lexington.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington and other times at the home of the daughter on Queen Road.
