Ruby Craver Cook

March 5, 1926 — April 5, 2019

Ruby Lee Craver Cook   Our Loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother went to be with the Lord on April 5 th . She’s spending her heavenly time enjoying all of the things she loved the most: planting her flowers and vegetables in her garden and sewing her immaculate quilts for the lord to admire. She was an angel in all of our eyes, and she has finally earned her wings.

Ruby was born on March 5, 1926 on a snowy cold morning to Oma Brinkley Craver and Manie Lee Craver. She was a descendant of John Davidson Craver who settled in Northern Davidson County and was the last of his 71 Grandchildren.

She provided 30 years of service in quality control at R.J. Reynolds before retiring. During her retirement, she loved gardening, sewing and traveling with her dear friend, Polly Craver. They spent countless hours drinking coffee, gardening and working in her greenhouse. She volunteered at The Senior Country Store in Welcome where she sold all of her delicious home-canned food items straight from her garden. In the springtime, she sold her beautiful flowers and plants at The Farmers Market in Lexington, where she acquired  many wonderful friends.

Dempsey Essick chose one of her quilts in his painting called “Robbing Peter to Pay Paul”. She was delighted and honored to have him include her own mother’s embroidered pillow on Dempsey’s father’s  daybed. She became great friends with Dempsey and Shelly and enjoyed their visits.

A funeral service will be 2:00 pm Tuesday April 9, 2019 at Mt Olivet United Methodist Church  where she was a member conducted  by Rev. Sandra Ireson and burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will see friends from 5-7 pm Monday at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel and at other times at the home of her daughter LouAnn and husband Randy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Grady Frederick Cook and a son Ronnie Edward Garrison, Daughter in Law Linda Farmer Garrison. Also preceded by a grandson, George Manie Sowders, a sister, Lula Craver (Leo) and her brothers, Raymond Craver (Carrie) and Howard Craver.

Surviving are a daughter,  Joy Lynn Sturgis, a son, Freddie Lee Cook (Cecelia) and another daughter, LouAnn Barker (Randy).  Her Grandchildren, David Garrison, Scott Witty (Cookie),  Brandon Dobey, Amanda Cook, Chad Barker (Megan) and Nathan Barker (Callie).

Great grandchildren: Angel, Austin, Chesley, Logan and Mason.

Her presence will always remain with us as she looks down  from above. We love her a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck because, “She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.”-Proverbs 3:15
