Clayton was born on October 31, 1937, in Lunenburg County VA, to the late Russell Harrison Scott and Linda Hill Scott. He was owner and operator of Clayton Scott General Contractor Inc. Clayton loved working with his hands by building and creating beautiful works from wood and making yard art. His compassion was seen through his service to the widows in his community by fixing and building things for them.

He was known as a lover of NASCAR, tending to his vegetable garden where he was most proud of his grapes and persimmons, and going to flea markets. A great deal could always be found at the flea market, and he enjoyed bartering for the best price. Always tinkering, he was always able to find a use for anything he came across.

The outdoors was an integral part of his life and he and his family enjoyed camping and being in nature. Family was the most important thing in his life, and he was a devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was proud of his family, and it was apparent, his love for them.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Julie Howard; and devoted partner, Shirley Jackson.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Teresa (Emery) Moren, of Lexington, Debbie Scott, of Linwood, Sandra (Herb) Caudill, of Linwood, and Gayle Everhart, of Linwood; the love of his life, Ms. Connie Patton; brother, Henry “Frankie” Scott; sister, Bernice Brookshire; grandchildren, Lee (Debra) Dunn, Richie (Jessica) Burham Jr. Eric Everhart, Heather Everhart, Kelly (Jake) Crim, Valerie (Rob) Mangum, and Daniel Jones; great grandchildren, Noah Burham, Lelia Dunn, Sidney Dunn, Lexi Ross, Layce Everhart, Kennedy Everhart, and Rylan Haas, Olivia Crim, Victoria Crim, Isabella Crim, Colton Mangum, Caitlin Mangum, and Claire Mangum; and many nephews and nieces.

He will truly be missed by everyone who knew him.
