Ruth Cope Comer

It is finished! The battle is over! Ruth Cope Comer, 74, was received by her Lord and Savior Friday, March 23, 2007. She died peacefully in her home after an extended illness with PSP. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sheets Memorial Baptist Church, where she was a member, by the Revs. Frankie Matthews and Keith Heitman. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mrs. Comer was born Nov. 5, 1932, in Lexington to Robert L. and Mae Tesh Cope. At her church she was a member of The Faithful Workers Class where she was president. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years and devoted caregiver, James Lloyd Comer of the home; one son, Roger Comer and his wife, Marian, and one daughter, Doris Stokes and her husband, Carter, all of Lexington; one brother, Bruce Cope and his wife, Joan, of Lexington; and one sister, Helen Wilhelm of Nashville, Tenn. She was "granny" to three grandchildren, Angie Cannon, Kameron McCullough and Philip Stokes, all of Lexington, and five great-grandchildren, Ashlee Wishon, Matthew and Heather Cannon and Brody and Jenna McCullough. "Granny" will be remembered for her sweet spirit and wonderful smile and her love of family. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Monday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, and other times at the home of her daughter on Old Bud Sink Road.
