Ruth Ann Cranford

Ruth Cranford, a woman whose warmth and kindness touched many, was born in Davidson County, North Carolina in 1945 to the late Lester Hollis Everhart, Sr. and his wife, Annie Perdue Everhart.

She passed away Thursday, July 30, 2026, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Ruth lived a life filled with love for her family, a passion for simple joys, and a spirit of generosity. Known as a sweet grandmother, Ruth had a special knack for making everyone feel welcome. She was a member of the AMVets Ladies Auxillary and the American Legion Ladies Auxillary. Mrs. Cranford had a deep love for the beach and enjoyed the tranquility of camping. Her passion for flowers brought beauty into her surroundings, and her creative spirit shone through in her unique Christmas trees made from coat hangers. Ruth was a dedicated cashier for Dollar General, where her friendly demeanor was appreciated by many. Her volunteer work as a chaperone for the Special Olympics showed her compassionate nature and commitment to helping others. Ruth found immense joy in her family. She had a special bond with her grandchildren and lovingly raised two grandsons from infancy. Her relationship with her son, Perry, was characterized by a playful back-and-forth banter that brought smiles to their faces. Her beloved dog, Molly, was a constant companion and brought her much happiness. Ruth was also a big fan of Elvis. Her spiritual life was rooted in the Baptist faith, and her life motto, Mark 5:34, guided her actions and interactions.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Everhart; sisters, Helen Spaugh, Kathy Dillard, Brenda Holbrook; and a stepdaughter, Wendy Wallace.

Surviving is her husband, Roger Cranford; son, Perry Ray Thornton; stepdaughter, Lisa Welborn; 7 grandchildren, Samantha Rae Thornton, Sommer Leonard, Hannah Thornton, Emily Welborn, Robert Wallace, Matthew Wallace and Nikki Welborn; one great-grandchild, Audrey Kate Leonard; brothers, Tommy Everhart and Darrell Everhart; sisters, Betty Rachels and Jo Spaugh.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Davidson Funeral Home, 301 N. Main St., Lexington, NC 27292. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the funeral home.
