Ruth Hedrick Essick

Ruth Hedrick Essick, 105, of Country Club Drive, died March 7, 2023, at Brookdale of Lexington.

Despite her advanced age, she had enjoyed good health and lived at home until recently.

The Rev. Elizabeth Horton will lead a graveside service at 2:00 pm, Sunday, March 12, 2023, at New Jerusalem United Church of Christ Cemetery.

Ruth was born December 7, 1917, in Davidson County to David Curtis Hedrick and Callie Kepley Hedrick. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Fritts Essick, a retired lieutenant colonel and career Army officer, who died March 30, 2007, and her sister, Beatrice Arlee Hedrick, who died October 13, 2004.

Prior to her marriage to Norman in 1954, Ruth and her sister operated Vanity Fair Beauty Salon in Lexington. Ruth accompanied Norman to several overseas postings before he completed his military career at Fort Bragg, NC. After he retired, they returned to Lexington and were members of First Reformed United Church of Christ.

Surviving are her sister-in-law and caregiver, Isabel Essick Frazier, of Lexington; brother-in-law, Charles Essick and his wife, Wanda, of Lexington, four nieces, Diane Frazier, of Pittsboro; Libby Beck, Charlotte West and her husband, Kenny, and Amanda Pullum and her husband, Walter, all of Lexington; and a nephew, Eric Frazier and his wife, Margie, of Durham.
