Alice Ruth Barker Hester Mitchell Mitchell, 88, of Abbotts Creek Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Old Highway 64 West, died Friday, January 29, 2016, at the nursing center.
The funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2016, at High Rock Church of Lexington with Dan Sandlin and Rev. Bruce Langley officiating and entombment will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00 until 2:00 pm and at other times at the home of her daughter.
Ruth was born in Ashe County, March 14, 1927 to George Dewey and Emma Jane McNeill Barker. She was a homemaker and was formerly employed with Edgewood Apparel and Manhattan Shirt Company and a member of True Word Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Ralph Hester, Melvin Mitchell and James Mitchell; daughter, Veronica Lynn Hester.
Surviving are her daughter, Ann Hester Cupp and husband Kenneth; 2 grandchildren, Brandon Cupp (Ashleigh) of Salisbury and Aarika Cupp Sandlin (Daniel) of Henderson;
5 great-grandchildren, William Cupp, Gracie Sipes, Zoe Cupp, Gavyn and Neleh Sandlin;
1 sister, Emma Faye Barker Leonard of West Jefferson.
