Ruth Hutchins Miller

February 22, 1917 — September 8, 2009

Mrs. Ruth Hutchins Miller, 92, of Carolina House of Lexington, and formerly of Quail Ridge Court, died Tuesday, September 08, at the nursing facility. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 9 at Forest Hill Memorial Park, with the Rev. Dr. Ray Howell 3rd and the Rev. Tommy Wilson officiating. Mrs. Miller, one of five children of Issac Summy Hutchins and Myrtle Dickens Hutchins, was born February 22, 1917, in Davidson County. She attended Meredith College and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a former president of the WMU. Mrs. Miller was a charter member of the Lexington Women’s Club and a member of the Euturpe Music Club, and the Lexington Garden Club. Her husband, Henry Calvin Miller, Jr., whom she married in 1937, preceded her in death on May 11, 1996. Surviving are her son, Henry Thomas Miller and wife, Carolyn Craft, of Durham; her daughter, Nancy Miller Wright and husband, Dr. J. Gordon Wright, of Lexington; her grandchildren, Amy Wright Hill and husband, Charles Mark Hill, of Durham, and Jacqueline Wright Schechter and husband, Adrian Drew Schechter, of Apex; and her great grandchildren, Thomas Randall Hill, Eleanor Grace Hill, Elyse Gordon Schechter, and Zoe Catherine Schechter. The family will receive friends at the home of Nancy and Gordon Wright, Twin Acres Drive, Lexington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington NC 27292 or to Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, 512 S. Magnum Street, Suite 400, Durham, NC 27710
