Ruth Floyd Surratt

March 30, 1923 — June 21, 2006

Ruth Floyd Surratt, 83 of Avenue I, Southmont, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem after declining health for 14 months. The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Macedonia United Methodist Church, where she was a lifetime member, by the Revs. Burton Williams and Wilson Pruitt. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Surratt was born March 30, 1923, in Davidson County to Wiley Floyd and Caroline Bell Parks Floyd. She was retired from the Davidson County school system. At her church she was a member of United Methodist Women and the church choir. She was an avid gardener who loved to work with flowers. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harlan Floyd and Ray Floyd; a sister, Fallie Haltom; and a grandson, Darin Surratt. Surviving are her husband, James Wade Surratt of the home; three sons, Franklin Wade Surratt and Phillip Roland Surratt, both of Lexington, and Daniel Andrew Surratt and his wife, Glenda, of Denton; three grandchildren, Angela Palmer, Brynn Surratt and Mandy Bailey; two great-grandchildren, Ellie Palmer and Hunter Bailey; and five brothers, James "Pete" Floyd of Denton, Foy Floyd, Paul Floyd and Roby Floyd, all of Lexington, and Arnold "Bob" Floyd of Morehead City. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Memorials may be directed to Macedonia United Methodist Church, 10890 N.C. Highway 8, Lexington, NC 27292.
