Sadie Byerly Hampton, 97, of Lakeview Church Road, died Monday, November 25, 2013, at Hinkle Hospice House.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Davidson Funeral Home with the Rev. Renee Easter officiating. Burial will follow in the Byerly Cemetery at Greer’s Chapel United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.
Aunt Sadie was born March 27, 1916, in Davidson County, to J.W. and Annie Leonard Byerly. Throughout the years, Aunt Sadie has been the neighborhood “Mom” to countless children in the community. She prepared fresh pies and bowls of home cooked food to share with parents and neighbors on a daily basis. Her love of gardening, canning, and work on the farm was unsurpassed by many of her generation. Her husband, Jay C. Hampton preceded her in death on November 11, 1985. Other family members who preceded her in death were four brothers, John Byerly, William “Bill” Byerly, Henry “Ben” Odell Byerly, and Boyce Byerly; seven sisters, Grace Cope, Esther Berrier, Liddie Miller, Lucy Jacobs, Opleen Weaver, Mary Hanes, and Lila Childress.
Aunt Sadie has been cared for at home for many years by Mary “Smokey” and Charles David Byerly, a devoted niece and nephew. In addition, she is survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
