Sadie Mcmahan Hanes

Sadie Joyce McMahan Hanes, age 74, of Lexington passed away on Friday, February 15, 2019 at Bermuda Village.

A funeral service will be held at Sheets Memorial Baptist Church on Monday, February 18, 2019 at 11:00 am with Pastor Frankie Matthews officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington or at other times at the home her daughter, Diana Hanes Simerson.

Mrs. Hanes was born on January 14, 1945 in Davidson County to Elmer Leon McMahan and Nona Myers McMahan. Mrs. Hanes was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed quilting, gardening, baking, canning and traveling. She loved taking trips with her family to the Outer Banks and enjoyed trips with her husband to Pigeon Forge. She was well known within the family for her candied yams. Mrs. Hanes memory will be cherished forevermore in the hearts of her family. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Larry O’Neal Hanes; two brothers, Odell McMahan and Myers McMahan; and a granddaughter, Madeline Grace who is the daughter of Scott and Julie Hanes.

Surviving are her three children, Scott Hanes (Julie), Stacey Hanes (Sharon), and Diana Simerson (Joe); five grandchildren, Tyler Simerson (Tiffanie), Cory Hanes, Gabe Simerson (Madison), Curtland Hanes and Emma Hanes; one great-grandchild, Miller Simerson; and one sister, Jane Sink (Leroy).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sheets Memorial Baptist Church Benevolence Committee at 210 Cotton Grove Road, Lexington, NC 27292.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the healthcare staff at the Bermuda Village Retirement Community as well as to Dr. Ezequiel Zamora and Emma Denny, NP for their support and compassionate care during the past few months.
