Mr. Sam Crittenden King Sr. of Winston Salem, NC slipped into the presence of the Lord March 7, 2011. He will be missed.
Mr. King was born September 1, 1922 in Newton, AL to Edgar Dewitt King and Alba Mullins King. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Betty Beckerdite King. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Joyce Beshears King, a son Sam C. King Jr. (Suzanne Cecil) of Winston Salem, his daughters Missy Millsaps (Dwight) of Cleveland, TN, Molly King of Pittsboro, and Ann Bullard (Billy) of China Grove, his beloved grandchildren William Bullard of the US Marine Corps, Abigail and Joseph Bullard of China Grove, brothers Edward King of Oak Ridge, TN and Jackson King of Newton, AL and many nieces and nephews.
Our father’s legacy included and exemplary work ethic, great integrity, and character. He graduated from Newton High School. He proudly served in the US Army 1942-1946 (WWII) He was first Lieutenant in the Signal Corps and served in the European and Philippine campaigns. Upon returning, he completed his studies and graduated from Auburn University in 1948. Through the years, he worked at Sears and Roebuck, Firestone,and Salem Company. He co-owned Clothes’ N Things. He was a co-partner of Davidson Mills and Davidson Leather for over 40 years. He was a member of Midway United Methodist Church.
A graveside service will be held 1:00 pm Wednesday March 9, 2011 at Midway United Methodist Church Cemetery with Pastor John Woods. The family will be receiving friends after the service in the Midway United Methodist Church Christian fellowship Center following the service.
