Sammy Hicks

Joseph Samuel "Sammy" Hicks 63, of Old Salisbury Road, Linwood, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 12, 2012, at his home after an illness of two months. A funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Chris Lanning. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Hicks was born Nov. 6, 1948, in Avery County to Nathan Monroe Hicks and Alice Pearls Hicks Hicks. He was retired from Lexington Memorial Hospital where he was in the environmental services department and was a member of Fundamental Baptist Tabernacle. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Rebecca Shipton Hicks of the home; two sons, Joseph Allen Hicks of the home and James Dale Hicks and wife Carol of Lexington; three grandchildren, Patrick Hicks, Jessica Hicks and Haley Hicks; two brothers, Jack Hicks and wife Carla of Cleveland and Jessie Hicks and wife Regina of Thomasville; and a sister, Joyce Dickens and husband Bobby of Banner Elk.
