Samuel Harold Jones, 83, of Arcadia Lane, died Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Wake Forest Baptist Health – Lexington Medical Center, following one year of declining health.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2014, at Madison Heights Free Will Baptist Church, where he was a charter member, with the Rev. David Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside honors by Davidson County Honor guard. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. prior to the service and other times at the home.
Mr. Jones was born May 21, 1931, in Swain County, to Samuel Harley Jones and Velma Beasley Jones. He was retired from Metal Bed Rail where he was a tool and die master. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Clifford Jones.
Surviving are his loving wife, Kathleen Wiggins Jones of the home; sons, Clayton Jones and wife Ethel of Peachland and Dexter Jones and wife Yvonne of Lexington; daughter, Elaine Moody and husband Harold of Lexington; grandchildren, Jessica Queen, Katie Moody, Jon Moody, Cindy Byrd, Sheldon Jones, Valerie Mangum, Daniel Jones and Kelly Grim; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Lon Jones, Claude Jones and Roger Jones, all of Lexington; and sister, Linda Barker of Lexington.
