Samuel Archer Sweigart, 81, of Donna Drive, formerly of Southmont, passed away Tuesday morning, June 7, 2011, at Hinkle Hospice House.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by Randy Osborne. Burial will follow at Arrington Heights Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home of his granddaughter, Tracy Osborne, 181 Donna Drive.
Samuel was born in Atlantic County, N.J., on Sept. 19, 1929, to Lawrence Sweigart and Helen Jordan Sweigart. He was a retired truck driver with Millville Silk, a member of Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge 317 in Lexington, and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Doris Wheat, Anna Mason and Mary Lou Leads; and one brother, Lawrence Sweigart Jr.
Surviving are one daughter, Patsy Applebee and husband Vince of Lexington; three grandchildren, Tracy Osborne and husband Randy, Tonya Cooke and husband Bill and Michelle Harper and husband Jerry; nine great-grandchildren, Travis, Arielle, Brittany, Kayla, Kurtis, Josh, Noah, Faith and Samantha; one great-great granddaughter, Dakotah; and one sister, Thelma Leash of Lexington.
