Sandra Clyde Carrick, 61, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Select Specialty Hospital-Moses Cone in Greensboro after an extended illness.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 22 at Beck’s Reformed Church, conducted by the Revs. Gerald Sanders and Charles Dickens, uncle of the deceased.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Sandra was born June 7, 1950 in Lexington to Clyde Herman Carrick and Myrtle Dickens Carrick. She attended Becks Reformed Church, near her home. She loved music and really enjoyed the Christian Contemporary service, as well as “Pastor Jerry” and her church family.
She was a graduate of Central Davidson High School and Appalachian State University, where she earned a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Reading. She taught at Davis Townsend Elementary School and Central Davidson Middle School for fourteen years. She volunteered at Lexington Memorial Hospital in the Physical Therapy Department with 10,500 hours of volunteer service. Also, she organized an Arthritis Support Group for Davidson County and participated in the Arthritis Walk Fundraiser in Charlotte for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and survived by four sisters, Ann Brady (Bob), Carole Arnette, Peggy Troutman (Jimmy “Pee Wee”), and Jean Burkhart (Ed). She was a very proud and loving aunt to her nieces and nephews. Nieces are Jamie Truell (Lee), Heather Morris (Mark), Jodi Williams (Joe), Lori Burris (Michael), and Jennifer Anthony (Tim). Nephews, Scott Brady, Rusty Arnette, Phil Brady, Brent Troutman (Jessica), and Ted Burkhart (Elizabeth). Great nieces are Skylar Truell, Courtney Brady, Sommer Truell, Zoey Anthony, Marleigh Morris, and Rylee Troutman. Great nephews are Zach Anthony, Hunter Brady, Dustin Arnette, Dalton Arnette, and Mason Burris. Also, her very special friends, considered family, are Richard and Peggy Leonard, Ronnie Leonard and children, Dalton, and Kinlee, Terry Leonard (JoAnne) and children, Brandon and Austyn, and a co-worker and dear friend, Beverly Leonard.
