Sandra "Kay" Wood Fort, 79, of Davidson County, North Carolina, passed away on June 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on October 16, 1946, in Perquimans County, North Carolina, Kay was the daughter of the late Walton Luke Wood and Mary Frances Winslow Wood.

Kay was known by all who loved her as one of the strongest people they had ever known. Throughout her life, she endured many hardships and challenges, yet she faced each one with courage, determination, and an unwavering will to live. Her strength was an inspiration for her family and friends.

Above all else, Kay cherished her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who always placed others before herself. She found joy in life's simple pleasures, especially the peace she felt while visiting the beach and admiring lighthouses. An avid animal lover, she treasured her beloved pets throughout the years. She also found happiness tending to her flower gardens, particularly her lilies, which reflected the beauty she brought to the lives of those around her.

In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her siblings, Luke Wood, Zelma Gore, and Pauline Rogerson; and by her special dogs, Doodle, Abby, and Babe.

Those left to cherish her memory include her beloved husband, Steve Fort; her daughters, Stephanie Myers (Zedric) and April Fort; her brother, Wallace Wood; her sister, Brenda Westling; her grandchildren, Nicholas Moore (Olivia), Austin Wilson (Carlea), and Macie; and many adored nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Kay also leaves behind numerous special friends whose lives were touched by her kindness and strength. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to her special nurse, Kara, of High Point Medical Center, for the compassionate care, kindness, and loving nature she showed Kay and her family during a difficult time.

She is also lovingly remembered by her daughter's cherished dogs, Brentley and Charlie, who brought her much happiness.

The family will honor Kay's life with a private Celebration of Life.
