Sandra “Sandy” Lee Shoemaker Hicks, 84, of Midway, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family and under the care of her loving husband, Lee.
Born on July 29, 1941, in Erie County, New York, to the late John Robert Shoemaker and the late Jane Elizabeth Wagner Shoemaker. Sandy was the eldest of nine children; she had six sisters and two brothers. She married the love of her life, W. Lee Hicks, Jr., on October 12, 1980, they were blessed to share forty-five years together.
Sandy loved life and had many interests and hobbies. She enjoyed sewing, coloring, and collecting porcelain dolls. Sandy cherished God’s creation and enjoyed looking at flowers and watching birds. She never met a stranger and had a special way to make everyone welcome. Sandy was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, and sister. We will greatly miss her and her infectious smile.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Matthew Lawrence Nagel and Corrine Lee Macemore.
Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, W. Lee Hicks; sons, Brett Nagel (Wendy) and Randall Nagel (Vivian); daughter, Tamara Nagel (Frank); step-son, Richard Scott Hicks; and siblings, Fran Olday, Brenda Penzes, Sharon Pitzonka, Karen Culler, Jean Mason, John Shoemaker, Jim Shoemaker and Beth Ann Shoemaker. Sandy had many grandchildren and step-grandchildren which she loved dearly.
The family will hold a private celebration of Sandy’s life on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
