Sandra Louise Smith Hutchens, 69, of Westside Drive, died suddenly Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Reformed United Church of Christ, where she was a member, with the Rev. Dr. Walter Patten officiating.
Mrs. Hutchens was born April 1, 1940, in Franklin County, to Joe John Smith and Dorothy Southerland Smith. She was a graduate of Lexington Senior High School; Lexington Beauty College and Davidson County Community College. She was retired from PPG Industries. Mrs. Hutchens was an active volunteer with Sheets Memorial Christian School and volunteered with Hillside Pool. She was a dedicated member of her church serving others in many ways which included being the contact person for the prayer chain committee, member of the Willing Workers Sunday school class, member of the Friendship Club, and a member of the Morning Glory Circle at her church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a grandson, JohnPaul Southerland Lewis; and brothers, Joseph John Smith and Edward Vance Smith.
Surviving are sons, Jeff Hutchens of Lexington and Dale Hutchens of Topeka, Ks.; daughters, Donna Hutchens Nichols and husband, Nicky, Dorothy Lewis and husband, Michael, and Scarlett Burchette and husband, Scott, all of Lexington; 12 grandchildren, Bobbie Jean, Will and wife, Holly, Renee’, Megan, Danielle, Meagan, Cody, Amber and husband, Joey, Katelyn, Spencer and Kalyssa, all of Lexington; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday prior to the service in the church parlor and other times at the home, 404 Westside Drive, Lexington.
