Sandra “Sandy” Kaye Hinson Mendenhall, 75, of Bermen Drive, Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully at her home on November 17, 2024. She was born on February 8, 1949, in Stanly County to the late Charles Lentz Hinson and Mary Emma Mills Hinson.
Sandy was a 1967 graduate of Davie High School and furthered her education at Cabarrus Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1970. Her career in nursing spanned decades, with dedicated service at Forsyth Medical Center (1970-1987) and Piedmont Hematology/Oncology (1987-2014).
Sandy and David were married on June 14, 1970 and were married 54 years. Sandy was a caring person – loved her family, friends and church family at Canaan United Methodist Church. She served many years as an oncology nurse and her patients loved her dearly. In retirement, she enjoyed her grandsons, grand dogs, the Outer Banks, and collecting Seagrove pottery.
She is survived by her loving husband, David Wayne Mendenhall, of the home; sons, Derrick Gray Mendenhall (Angie) and Rev. Jason "Ryan" Mendenhall (Wendy); brothers Rev. Harrison Lee Hinson and Coy Thomas Russell; sisters Billie Fesperman McGuire, Marilyn Hinson Allard, and Patricia Carol Russell Siegel; and four cherished grandchildren; Dalton, Luke, Ethan and Adam. She is preceded in death by her granddaughter Lauren Hope.
A funeral service to honor Sandra’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 22, 2024, at Canaan United Methodist Church in Winston Salem, with Rev. Jay Bowers officiating. Sandy will lie in state between 10:00a.m. and 11:00a.m. Following the service, the family will greet guests in the Fellowship Hall.
The family would like to thank Mike and Susie Weddle, Cindy Guy, Paula Norman, and Penny Scott for their friendship and their loving care in her last days. They were truly Sandy’s angels on earth.

Sandy will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
