Mrs. Sallie Meade, a former resident of Lexington, passed away Saturday evening, July 5, 2008 at Aldersgate Retirement Community in Charlotte, NC. She was 88 years old.
She was born in Anderson Indiana, on March 27, 1920. Her parents were the late Albert James Bartle and Norma Rossetter Bartle.
Sallie had a deep and enduring love of the arts. She studied music and voice at Goucher College and the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore where she met and married the late Dr. Forest C. Meade in 1942. At the end of World War II, Dr. and Mrs. Meade moved to Statesville, NC in 1947, and then to Lexington in 1950, where they raised their two children.
An accomplished artist, Sallie had successful careers in needlepoint design and the fine arts. Continuing her studies in London and the South of France, she discovered her favorite painting subject: impressionistic landscapes. Her passion for color and texture was greatly enhanced, and her painting style was refined during these extended trips. Her works are still appreciated by her many friends and patrons.
She is survived by her son Forest C. Meade, Jr., and his wife Susan of Bronxville, NY; her daughter, Anne Meade Richardson and her husband Rick of Charlotte, NC; three grand children: Andrew R. Meade of Los Angeles, CA; William P, Meade and his wife, Kellie of Philadelphia, PA; and Elizabeth C. Meade of New York, NY. Mrs. Meade recently became a very proud Great Grandmother. Harrison James Meade was born May 28, 2008 in Philadelphia.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 11, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home, and will be followed by a private graveside service.
