Sarah Catherine Blount Akers, 81 of Cedar Dr. Lexington died Monday January 25, 2010 at 7:52 PM at her home after 2 ½ years of declining health. The funeral service will be Thursday at 2:00 PM at Freedom Missionary Baptist Church with the Preacher Clyde Akers officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her son, Preacher Clyde Akers, 317 Cedar Drive
Mrs. Akers was born on February 25, 1928 to Marvin David Blount and Cora Lee Thompson Blount. She was retired from Dacotah Mills and a member of Freedom Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Lee “Jack” Akers, Sr. in 1989 and her son J. R. Akers in 2009.
Surviving are sons, Preacher Clyde Akers of Lexington, Al Akers of Charlotte, Richard Akers of Asheboro, Charles Akers of Lexington and Joe Akers and wife Beth of Churchland and Tim Akers of Myrtle Beach, daughters Mary “Susie” Brinkley and husband Preston of Mocksville and Patricia “Patty” Chesson and husband Rick of Lexington, daughter-in-law, Dianne Akers of Tyro, 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and brother David Blount and wife Martha of Lexington.
