Sarah Lyerly Higgins

Sarah Kathleen Lyerly Higgins, 92, of Spring Drive, died Friday, March 16, 2007, in Lexington Memorial Hospital. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Reformed United Church of Christ by the Rev. Mike Hooper. Burial will be at Lexington City Cemetery. Mrs. Higgins was born in Rowan County on Aug. 13, 1914, to Floyd Lyerly and Minnie Lyerly. She was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ, a member of the choir and active in many areas of the church over the years. She was a retired employee of Burlington Industries and had worked as a cosmetologist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Higgins, in 1960; a daughter, Barbara Smith; brothers, Graham Lyerly, Johnny Lyerly and Jim Lyerly; sisters, Una Trexler, Bernice Moore, Jenny Sparger and Ann Gottfried. Surviving are her sons, Donald Higgins of the home and Michael Higgins of Clarksville, Va.; grandchildren, Debbie Smith, Scott Smith and Amy Franklin; one great grandchild; and a sister, Betty Sue Brown of Melbourne, Fla. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday in the church parlor. Memorials may be made to First Reformed United Church of Christ, 104 E. Center St., Lexington, N.C. 27292.
