Sarah Younts Leonard

Sarah Minerva Younts Leonard, 94, entered her heavenly home on April 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on June 3, 1931, to John Turner Younts and Mary Elizabeth Leonard Younts, who preceded her in death.

Sarah was a lifelong woman of faith whose trust in God shaped her children, her family, and everyone blessed to know her. She was a charter member of New Friendship UCC, where she served faithfully in the choir, the Women’s Guild, and as the Church Historian. Her favorite scripture was John 3:16, and she often reminded those around her that “Jesus would never leave her or forsake her.” She lived that truth with quiet strength and unwavering devotion.

Sarah spent her life serving others with her hands and her heart. She worked as a seamstress, cared for residents in a nursing home, and later worked in a restaurant before retiring. She loved flowers and gardening, and she found joy in helping others through Meals on Wheels. Her kindness was steady, her generosity constant, and her love for people unmistakable.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Carol Leonard, who passed away on July 10, 2006. She was also preceded by her parents and all her brothers and sisters: Everett Younts, Alfred Younts, Dallas Younts, Herman Younts, Johnny Younts, Avery Younts, Ruth Everhart, Juanita Gurley, Martha Younts, and Marylee Penninger.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Leslie Leonard, Kelly Leonard, and Lori Mahan. She is also survived by her sister‑in‑law, Nancy Baker of Martinsville, Virginia.

Sarah’s legacy continues through her grandchildren:

- Meghan Davis and her husband Charlie

- Molly Leonard

- Matthew Leonard and Kaitlyn

- Tessa Howell and her husband Garrett

- Ty Mahan

Her great‑grandchildren include: Oliver Gibson, Emily Davis, and Autumn Davis.

She is also lovingly remembered by her step‑grandchildren: Skylar Lohr, Bill Lohr, and Chesley Bungard.

Sarah loved all her nieces, nephews, great‑nieces, and great‑nephews, and she carried each one in her heart.

Sarah lived a life marked by faith, service, and love. She walked gently, gave freely, and trusted God completely. Now she rests in His presence, reunited with those who went before her, and held forever in the promise she believed with all her heart.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,

that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” — John 3:16 (KJV)
