Sarah Elizabeth Matthews

Sarah Elizabeth Watson Matthews, 87 of Hudson Road Winston Salem, died Sunday March 28, 2010 at her home. Mrs. Mathews was born May 12, 1922 in Surry County to William Lacy Watson and Sarah Butcher Watson. She was preceded in death by her parents and a great-grandson Justin Bowles. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel, with Rev. Tim Day officiating the service. A private family burial will follow in the Parklawn Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 PM at the funeral home prior to the service. Surviving is husband of 70 years Romie Esker Matthews of the home, two sons: Romie Edward Matthews and wife Virginia of Winston Salem and Larry Matthews and wife Mary of Tenn., one daughter: Pamela Bailey and husband Wayne of Winston Salem, seven grandchildren: Vickie Moser and husband Eddie, Marc Matthews, Toby Ballard, Margo Matthews, Dale Matthews, Amy Lowry and husband Barry, and Matthew Bailey and wife Jamie, four great-grandchildren: Heather Rose, Jonathan Moser, Ava Lowry and Charlotte Lowry, and one great-great-grandchild: Darien Henderson. Memorials my be made to Hospice & Palliative Care 101 Hospice Lane Winston Salem NC 27103. The family would like to offer their special thanks to the Forsyth Hospice for all their timely help during Elizabeth’s illness. We would also like to thank Tracy and Nell for their special care.
