Shelby Chester Brock, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30pm Saturday, February 1 at Hodges Chapel Church, 780 Hodges Chapel Road, Benson NC.
Born on April 12, 1938, to Julius Leroy Chester and Nora Virginia Tesh Chester in Greensboro, North Carolina, Shelby lived a life full of love, warmth, and dedication to those she held dear.
She retired from Industries of the Blind, where she was known for her hard work and dedication. Her spirit of service extended beyond her career as she survived cancer and dedicated her time volunteering at the Lexington Cancer Center, offering support and hope to others. An avid bowler and a wonderful cook, Shelby filled her life and the lives of others with passion and care. She attended Pilgrim Reformed Church and her faith was a testament to her family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dennis "Tom" Brock, her son, Daniel New, and her siblings, Dermont Chester, Charles Chester, Norman Chester, James Chester, Beauford Chester, Jimmy Chester, Peggy Long, and Geneva Hutchinson.
Shelby was a nurturing force who found her greatest joy in her family. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Nori New-Jackson and spouse, Cary, of Dunn; her sons, Michael New (Cortney) of Georgia, Samuel New of San Francisco, CA, and David New (Nicole) of Sanford, FL. Shelby also leaves behind her stepdaughters, Debra Day and husband Mike of Greensboro, and Cindy Matthews of Cary; and her step-son, Dennis Lee Brock and wife, Barbara, of Winston-Salem. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Joshua New, Jason New, Jacob New, Amanda Bryant, Ester Jackson, Elijah Jackson, Jonathan Jackson, Elizabeth New-Robinson, Michael New II, Aaron Day, Allison Crisafulli, Brock Bailey, Beth Willis, Brianne Matthews, Taylor Brock, and Alex Brock; and her 14 great-grandchildren.
Shelby's warmth, generosity, and loving nature will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her family grieves the loss but celebrates a life well-lived.
The family would like to thank the Guilford House staff and Hospice/Authoricare for their love and kindness. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the donor’s choice.
